Everything you need to know about Customs.
Moving the contents of your home across International Borders often means You are subject to Compliance Regulations imposed by Customs Authorities, and they do vary from country to country.
The purpose of this documentation is two-fold: firstly, it establishes you to have the legal right to take residency in a new country; and secondly, it declares your intent to import household effects to make your new home. With every country being different, Galleon International is able to provide you with specific information highlighting any effects that potentially may be prohibited, or liable to local taxes and duties on importation.
Respectful of the differing cultures, some countries actually insist on your physical attendance, or at least, being present in that country before Clearances can be undertaken.
We are all aware of the heightening security that now is becoming more and more apparent globally. It is understandable why thorough scrutiny exists around documentation, and the need to apply tolerance towards the procedures necessary to sanction your entry.
Our Move Manager will attend to the submission of documents and will track the consignment/s through Customs. In our experience, it typically takes 3-5 days to process any Airfreight consignments; and, anytime varying from 1-2 weeks to process Seafreight consignments. These time periods are subject to change if there are seasonal higher levels of activity. Once Clearances have been finalised, a coordinated delivery will be mutually agreed.
More recently, and with the impact still to be felt by the UK’s decision to leave the European Union by BREXIT, it is likely there are still to be changes implemented in Cross-Border movements. We will advise accordingly and keep you updated by announcements on our website.
